FROM FARM TO CUP

THE HISTORY OF THE ORIGIN OF MATCHA NINJA.

Matcha Ninja was originally grown in Yame, Japan. However, one concern that arose for both us and our consumers was the possibility of radioactive contamination of the tea leaves due to the Fukushima disaster. The tea plant, known as Camellia Sinensis , acts like a “sponge,” absorbing much of what is in its environment. This, combined with the fact that with matcha you consume the entire leaf and not just the extract like regular tea, further heightened the concern.

The raw material used exclusively to produce matcha is a green tea leaf called tencha . So we decided to expand our sourcing efforts and seek out new sources of tencha. Our search led us back to the birthplace of tea, and more specifically to beautiful, organic farms in Zhejiang, China. Zhejiang is home to the renowned Longjing (or Dragon Well) green tea, an exceptionally high-quality tea, recognized worldwide by tea sommeliers. Most of Zhejiang province is covered in hills and small mountain ranges. The high altitude is ideal for tea plants, and the air remains clean and fresh. The region is characterized by a humid subtropical climate with distinct seasons and seasonal rainfall, creating the perfect growing conditions for the tencha leaves used in Matcha Ninja.

The Matcha Ninja comes to life in the mountainous region of Zhejiang Province, in a mild climate with rain and fog throughout the year. These conditions, combined with reduced sunlight, allow the tea leaves to retain higher levels of L-theanine , giving the drink a smooth, round and fruity taste.

We leveraged our Japanese matcha expertise – traditional stone grinding, pest control and protection from sunlight – combined with the knowledge of generations of Chinese green tea growers, to create a quality of organic tencha unlike anything we had ever tasted before.

Every step of this journey – from the field to the grinding – is done with absolute respect for nature, tradition and purity. For us, matcha is not just a drink; it is a conscious choice of quality, balance and enjoyment in your everyday life.

And just like that, the perfect matcha ends up in your glass.
